How to Remove a Background From a Product Photo
Why background removal quality comes down to edges, and how to get a clean cutout from photos you already have.
Edges are the whole job
Any tool can separate a solid object from a solid wall. The difference between a professional cutout and an obvious one shows up at the edges: hair, mesh, transparent plastic, straps and reflective chrome.
Give the model contrast to work with. A dark product against a dark background is the hardest possible case; a mid-grey surface behind it makes the separation trivial.
A repeatable workflow
Upload, remove, inspect at 100%, then decide what goes behind. Doing removal as its own step — rather than asking for removal and a new scene in one pass — makes results far more predictable.
Once the cutout is clean you can drop it onto a flat colour, a generated studio, or your own background image without re-uploading.
Common failure cases
Motion blur, heavy JPEG artefacts and busy patterned backgrounds all reduce edge accuracy. If a result disappoints, reshoot rather than fight it — five seconds of better lighting beats twenty minutes of retouching.
